Easy tips to safely remove Ink or Sharpie.

Ink-Or-Sharpie-Removal.jpg
Do you see what I see?  My youngest decided to graffiti by leather couch!

He is one lucky boy I new the trick to remove the ink..

The funniest part of the whole thing is he still can't tell me why he had the urge to write his name with pen on the couch. I have removed ink and sharpie from leather, carpet, clothing, and laminent using this easy method.

I know now my kids sound like trouble, but they really aren't. I can't tell you how many times sharpie has leaked through a project onto clothing or a pens broke!

Just make sure to test a hidden area first because it could remove some color.

99% Isopropyl Alcohol works the fastest but the 70% stuff still works it just takes more time.

Make sure to test a hidden area for color retention before proceeding.

Use a q-tip dipped in the alcohol and trace the pen marks. The pen will lift almost immediately with 99% alcohol.

Use a clean damp cloth and wipe the area down when done.

  2. Your couch looks terrific! This can be very helpful...thanks! Once when my son was about three he took an ink pen and scribble on a small of the wall in my bedroom. That was the only time. He's always enjoyed drawing, but normally it was on paper.:)

  12. Hey Serena! Better a few years late than never right?.So I thought I'd share another way to remove Sharpie from finished wood w/out damaging the finish. Regular toothpaste. Try to avoid the gel kind. Just apply the toothpaste directly onto the marker stain and rub it in w/a damp cloth. Rinse out the rag and use it to wipe the area until the toothpaste and marker stain are no longer visible. This may take more than one application depending on how much marker is present, but you don't have to worry about drying the wood out with alcohol!.I always use alcohol on painted wood and believe it or not fingernail polish remover is the best thing to use on fabric! That's right! Fingernail polish remover gets out everything from hot glue to perm market out if fabric with out affecting the color. DO NOT USE IT ON WOOD SURFACES THOUGH! One last tip for fabric stained with marker or pen is WD-40! THANKS FOR SHARING!
