Homemade Baked Beans with Sausage is a childhood favorite we love for dinner or a hearty side dish at summertime barbecues.

Baked Beans with Sausage is definitely comfort food dinner for me..

My Granny would make Baked Beans with Sausage all the time when I was a kid and it was always a favorite!

This is a delicious recipe perfect to toss in the crock pot for dinner later that night or to cook on the stove top for a few hours.
To top it off the kids love it too or devour might be a better word! I also love how budget friendly this meal is at about 10.00 total to feed 5. That comes out to $2.00 a piece.

Here's how to make Baked Beans with Sausage. It's a favorite use for dried beans.

A stainless steel pot with sautéed onions, garlic, and tomato paste with a whisk resting in the pot.

Soak overnight 1 pound Dried Great Northern Beans covered with about water 2 inches of water. Drain beans and cover with water in a large soup pot. Boil until tender and reserve 3 cups liquid from the cooked beans.

In a large soup pot add:
  • 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 whole Onion, Diced
Sauté over medium-high heat until starting to caramelize.

Add:
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 4 tablespoon Tomato Paste
Stir until tomato paste is distributed in with the onions.

Cooked bean liquid being poured into tomato paste and sautéd onions.

Add 3 cups reserved Cooking Liquid from cooked beans.

Add:
  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1 tablespoon White Wine Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Cooked Beans
Baked Beans simmering in a large stainless steel pot.

Bring to a simmer, cover and cook over low heat or add to the crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours.

If cooking on the stove top cook a minimum of 2 hours.

A pot of Baked Beans with Sausage on top.

Chop and add 1 pound Smoked Sausage to the beans. I like Linguica, Andouille or whatever other smoked sausage I have on hand that I think would go well with baked beans.

Cook for 1 additional hour over low heat.

  7. I'm loving your step by step, even for something as simple as Boston Baked Beans. I know Heinz beans are good, but any properly made are just irresistible. Looking forward to more.
