Grandma Sybil's Dilly Bread

Grandma-Sybils-Dilly-Bread.jpg

This recipe is an old recipe from my husbands Grandma Sybil she passed away last year at the lovely age of 100! Simply amazing I thought!

While we were visiting my Husbands Father brought up this Dilly Bread his mother had made for him over the years.. I believe his exact words at the time were, "That was the best darn bread I ever had."

So I proceeded to see if he might know where the recipe might be hidden but he was sure it was long gone since she went to the assisted living facility.

Fast forward to around Christmas time when I was having a conversation with my Mother-in-law about recipes she wanted to make sure I had copies of and I bring up the story about the Dilly Bread.

Guess what she had Sybil's Dilly Bread recipe and it's every bit as delicious as my Father-in-law had described.

P.S. This bread is super easy and doesn't require a mixer!

Light and airy with these little dill seeds that taste mildly like caraway..

Oh dear deliciousness!

Beef Stroganoff Recipe Scratch

Friday, March 22, 2013
Easy to make Beef Stroganoff From Scratch is always a family favorite. This Homemade Beef Stroganoff never lasts long thanks to the tender pieces of beef sirloin steak that are seared to perfection followed by caramelizing the onions as the start to the beefy garlicky mushroom sour cream based gravy.

Homemade Beef Stroganoff is a classic easy dinner recipe you can have on the table with in 35 minutes.

Beef Stroganoff From Scratch in a cast iron skillet.

Homemade Beef Stroganoff was one of the first recipes I shared on the blog.

It's also our family's all time favorite dinner! I knew it was time for a few better picture's. Plus it was a great excuse to make Beef Stroganoff the other night and share our all time favorite meal.

There's just something about the beef and mushrooms in a creamy sour cream sauce smothered over noodles.

This isn't that dreaded stuff that comes in a box folks! This is the real deal!

If you've been looking for a Beef Stroganoff recipe look no further. This ones D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! I stirred the egg noodles in for the pictures but I prefer the sauce over the top of the Homemade Egg Noodles instead. (Like the picture below.) Just my own little opinion!

Flaky Pie Crust

Flaky-Pie-Crust.jpg

I've slowly perfected Flaky Pie Crust dough since the early years of marriage.

There's nothing like a flaky pie crust that shatters with the touch of a fork.

I've tried different variations over the years like using the food processor but I find a pastry cutter works best, it leaves a lot more control in cutting in the fat. I also have tried all butter, and all shortening.
I find the shortening seems to make the crust tender but lacks the wonderful flavor the butter imparts on the dough.

For a flaky, tender, and flavorful crust I find half shortening, and half butter makes a tasty flaky crust.

Just in case you need a filling for your pie make sure to check out Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Skinny Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Cream Pie, Caramely Apple Pie with Crunch Topping and of course the infamous Banana Cream Pie.

I truly  pie!

Broccoli Ham And Cheese Pockets Recipe

Broccoli Ham and Cheese Pockets

I promised you I would be back today with a favorite! Ham and Cheese Broccoli Pockets.

Broccoli, ham and gooey cheese all wrapped together into a hand pie, no wonder the big and small alike  will love these babies!

L.J. had a buddy over for dinner the other night and we had just had pizza night 2 nights prior so we decided Broccoli Ham and Cheese Pockets were the way to go.. I made them fairly large and I was going to cut them in half for the kids and save the extras for lunch the next day but my plans were destroyed. The kids devoured their pockets and my lunch was gone. It was a sad moment, I had already envisioned sitting on the couch eating my left over pocket while the kids were at school. Enjoying every last bite of broccoli and ham, cheesy goodness while watching some cheesy T.V. show or movie..

My plans were spoiled, failed, destroyed!

Be warned these will be a favorite!

Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

Tuesday, March 12, 2013
The Best easy Homemade Pizza Dough recipe is a family favorite for Pizza Fridays.

Pizza Dough Recipe is an easy homemade recipe from Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

Have you ever made Homemade Pizza Dough?

Pizza nights are always the best night of the week in our house!

My husband grew up throwing pizzas in his Aunt and Uncles pizza shop, so he always loves to show off his moves!

As for me I will stick to a rolling pin with a stretch and shape technique to keep the dough from landing on the ceiling or in my hair!

This dough's chewy yet crisp around the edges and holds up well to toppings.

Best of all it's so easy to make.

Most of the time I make the dough the night before and allow it to rest in the fridge for the next day.

This dough makes 2 large pizzas so if you aren't feeding a football team like our house feel free to divide the dough in half and refrigerate half for calzones or hot pockets for a day or two later.

Just in case you are  wondering about the tasty recipe for the Broccoli Ham And Cheese Pockets pictured above I will be posting that tomorrow!

They are defiantly worth coming back for.

Bakery-Style Double Chocolate Muffins

Baker-Style-Double-Chocolate-Muffins.jpg
I've been in love with muffins lately. A muffin and a cuppa coffee or tea and I'm good to go.
Add a little chocolate to the mix and I think I've made it to heaven.
It feels a little naughty having chocolate for breakfast but I think that's what makes it so fun!
These muffins are chocolaty but have a  light texture and the coffee helps intensify the chocolate flavor.
These are defiantly a perfect Double Chocolate Muffin in my book!

Chewy Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Friday, March 1, 2013
Soft, chewy, and spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies always remind me of childhood. I loved when my Granny would make Oatmeal Cookies. I love raisins but you can always leave them out if you don't care for them. These Spiced Oatmeal Cookies are filled with vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger for a delicious balance of spices.

Chewy Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies elicit fond memories of Granny's kitchen growing up.

Chocolate Chip and Chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies were always a staple in our house.
She and my Granddad were kind enough to spend their retirement raising me with morals and values they had accumulated over the decades. They never once complained of raising me but instilled me with lessons I would have never learned else where.

Granny was a cooking goddess in her 70's, very few things in our house were ever prepackaged and most days were spent in the kitchen fixing breakfast, lunch, dinner and a dessert from scratch. One of the few premade items to grace our dinner table would be the occasional take and bake pizza and as a special treat at lunch time we enjoyed the occasional hamburger from Mc Donald's but it was definitely a treat and few and far between.

As the winner of this month's Shine Supper Club  for my Moist Chocolate Cake with Ganache Frosting From Scratch I was asked who I would invite to my ideal dinner party living or dead and I knew in that moment I would have loved just one more day with them. To spend time in the kitchen learning all my favorite recipes she would make for me as a child. To be able to jot down the wild stories my Granddad would tell of Caddying for Al Capone as a young man growing up in Cicero, Ill. and all the memories my grandmother had shared as I was too young to remember the exact details of the stories but rather just a gist.

Oh how much I would give for them to meet Colt and the kids and to be able to see how well I turned out. Just for one more moment to say Thank You for being such an inspiration for who I am today!
