Keeping Your Family Healthy With Balance And Mixify

With our kids getting older I find it important to teach them how to find balance in life.
I remember when I was growing up we only had whole wheat bread and all the other kids had white bread in their lunch box, and how badly I wanted white bread but Granny wouldn't buy it, so when I would go to my friend's house I would gorge on white bread whenever I could.
It taught me how important it was to teach my kids balance instead of limiting what they eat, and to try everything once.
I found in allowing the kids to occasionally enjoy candy, soda and other sweet treats in moderation. It prevents them from over indulging.
Moderation is key in achieving a balanced life style, not elimination.
We have also found it extremely important to teach our kids to balance video games, T.V. and Internet with exercise. It helps them keep their bodies healthy and strong.
Our kids love when we spend time as a family hiking, swimming, shooting hoops or just throwing the frisbee at the park. Activities don't need to be costly to enjoy and it's always fun to get out and spend quality time as a family or one-on-one.
It's amazing the things you might find when you're out in nature - like this deer hidden in the grass.
Can you see it?
It offers a great opportunity to enjoy conversations with your teenagers about the things you saw.
The American Beverage Association has created a great program called Mixify to inspire teens to find a balanced mix of food, drinks and physical activities every day in ways that are totally unique to them because everyone, every family, and every day is different.
Mixify started when Moms across the country told America's leading beverage companies that they wanted the companies' support in educating their teens about balance, including fitting all foods and beverages they might enjoy, like soda pop, ice cream and other treats, while still achieving a balanced lifestyle.
Mixify was co-created with teens and includes features like opportunities to ask experts, including dietitians and personal trainers, for advice on how to fit balance into their busy lives.
To learn more information on Mixify and other efforts made by the America's Beverage Companies to help families achieve balance please visit: www.DeliveringChoices.org.
To visit the Mixify website for teens check out: www.MyMixify.com.

Coke, Dr Pepper and Pepsi understand that getting a balanced mix of foods, drinks and physical activities for your family isn’t always easy. That’s why they’re coming together for the first time ever to talk to teens about balancing what they eat and drink with what they do. With tools to help teens get active and information to help them think about when they’ve had too much, or maybe when it’s time for a treat—America’s beverage companies are supporting our efforts to find a balanced mix that works for our families.”

  13. I love to walk, hubs loves to swim, daughter loves to play tennis, son loves to skateboard, everybody needs to do an activity every day for at least an hour. We have minimal processed food in our house, no sodas, I have big bowls of fruit on the kitchen table, easy to grab when a snack is needed. Dinnertime, we all share a meal together, with a veggie side and big salads! Nettie

  15. We have to find a balance with getting enough fresh air and sunshine in the winter. Just this past week, we received over 30 inches of snow in two days. My daughters went deer hunting and sledding to enjoy the blustery outdoors.

  16. I add a lot of fresh veggies and fruits into our diet. The kids get 1 hour of video/game time only after they get outside and get active. All three of my children have started running with me 3 times a week too.
