Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake

Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake from Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.
I made Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake the other day as a treat for my kids. When I saw some gorgeously ripe strawberries in the store I knew it was time to make strawberry shortcake in celebration of spring! I'm ready for some sunshine and warm weather already!

Originally I was going to make standard strawberry shortcake but the chocolate was calling my name.
When I embarked on making these I had this deep chocolate flavor in mind but they ended up rather mild. Tasting one of the biscuits plain left me rather disappointed, I barely could taste the chocolate and I thought they tasted more like a standard biscuit with a slight hint of chocolate...

I decided I wasn't going to try a shortcake last night but the kids and husband enjoyed it a lot. At 2:45 am as my husband was leaving for work I tasted another biscuit and made the comment the flavor improved as they had cooled but it still didn't taste as chocolaty as I had imagined.

I let him know I wasn't going to share this recipe because I didn't think it was worthy. He then told me what are you CRAZY? I looked at him and said are you serious? He said yes they were delicious! You didn't eat a shortcake last night did you? You have to have a shortcake today before you make your finale decision...

So at 8:30 am I enjoyed Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake.. Yes, I enjoyed it for breakfast! It was delicious and the strawberries and whip cream made the chocolate flavor pop just enough to make it noticeable, but not overwhelming!

Colt was right and I'm glad I listened. Just for the record this doesn't happen very often do to my stubbornness!

Italian Sloppy Joes

Tuesday, February 26, 2013
Italian Sloppy Joes are an easy to make dinner recipes in under 30 minutes! The kids love it from Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

A few days ago while I was browsing through Once A Mom Always A Cook's tasty blog I noticed her latest post was Italian Sloppy Joes.

Oh good golly miss molly I was about ready to lick the screen! It was my two favorite parts of spaghetti, the sauce and the french bread in one.

But wait a minute it didn't end there, the bread was smothered in cheesy goodness... Did I mention these are super easy to make and a great weeknight meal?

I was sold, plus I have a serious love for anything with the word sloppy in it!

Just in case you are looking for a more traditional sloppy joe make sure to check out my Homemade Sloppy Joes, or Mexican Sloppy Joes they are another delicious option.

As for these Italian Sloppy Joes they are definitely going into the quick easy dinner rotation.

Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies

Treasure Cookies were the very first cookie recipe I shared on the blog and I figured it was about time we revisit one of my very favorite cookies with a few picture updates! These are by no means healthy but they are very moist, chewy and delicious! If you like coconut and chocolate these are a must make!

Plus if you like to eat raw dough which to my surprise you all do, this dough has no raw eggs so you can eat until your little heart is content and I won't judge or shoo away your hand!
I probably ate more then my fair share of dough in the process of making these.
(Remember we agreed I won't judge you if you don't judge me!)

Crock-Pot Chicken And Mushroom Gravy With Tarragon

Crock-Pot-Chicken-And-Mushroom-Gravy-With-Tarragon.jpg
There's nothing quite like Crock-Pot Chicken And Mushroom Gravy With Tarragon over the top of  garlic mashed potatoes, Eggs Noodles, Skinny Mashed Cauliflower or even Skinny Mashed Yams.
There's just something so comforting about gravy with fork tender pulled chicken, mushrooms and tarragon.
I love that I can make this in a crock-pot and forget it for the next 6-8 hours.
I love the smell the tarragon imparts as it cooks and my husbands face as he walks through the door and is wafted by dinner.
The colors aren't amazing unless you make this with the Skinny Mashed Yams (which is to die for if your a yam lover) but I promise the flavor is amazing!

Moist Banana Nut Muffins

Moist Banana Nut Muffins.
What could be a better start to any morning then Moist Banana Nut Muffins? Not much in my book.

These are deliciously moist with a lovely banana flavor. Add a little pat of butter with a cup of coffee or tea and I am in pure heaven. These are a great alternative to making traditional banana bread when you have an over abundance of overripe bananas!

The worst part of making these was my husbands little addiction to wanting to lick the batter. I had to keep shoeing him away like a pesky little fly. It drives me crazy when he wants to eat batter with raw eggs in it! According to him the batter was divine!

For me I will just take his word for it and stick to eating my muffins!

Moist Chocolate Cake With Ganache Frosting

Moist-Chocolate-Cake-With-Ganache-Frosting.jpg

What could possibly be a sexier dessert for Valentines Day then a moist slice of chocolate cake with rich ganache frosting?  When I think of a dessert for my love on Valentines Day this is it!

This cake is guaranteed to leave the one you love swooning and asking for more. Once you make this cake I promise you will never buy or look at another box cake mix the same. It is wonderfully moist with a lovely rich chocolate flavor and easy to make. The ganache is best made with a chocolate you would eat plain, whether you prefer a dark chocolate or semi sweet. I find one of the biggest mistakes when making a ganache is using a chocolate that you would not eat plain. It's important to use a good quality chocolate!

Spinach Dip From Scratch

Spinach Dip From Scratch | Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch

I have a serious love of Spinach Dip. It's a must make at any kind of gathering with it's creamy texture dipped with crusty sourdough bread.

I'll be real honest with you right now my husband usually eats half the container before the company arrives and then tries to come up with some lame excuse with a couple of kisses on the cheek, and says  stuff like baby I just loved it a lot.. (I wonder where Mas our 7 year old finds his charm from.) Some how this wins me over every time, dang him one of these days I will stand strong to this manipulation!

I've used Knorr Vegetable Soup mix in my dip for years along with sour cream and a lot of mayo. So, I set out to come up with a tasty dip minus the soup mix since it contains MSG and to reduce the calories from all the sour cream and mayo.

I used a little turmeric since it has a lot of wonderful healing properties but if you are looking for more of a classic white dip feel free to omit. I won't judge I promise!

This sponsorship is brought to you by Thai Kitchen whom we have partnered with for this promotion.
Sometimes lunch at our house is a little hodgepodge of whatever I can find without leaving the confines of my cozy abode.  Well alright you busted me some times dinner is made up as I go too..
Thai Kitchen was kind enough to ship a sampler package over of a few products to try out for the upcoming Chinese New Year Celebration! Which was a perfect addition to the lettuce wraps.
The one thing I almost always have on hand is stuff to make some kind of lettuce wrap and last weekend while I was trying to decide what to concoct, lettuce wraps fit the bill!
These are amazing! Yes there I said it once again, another amazing recipe.
