Blueberry Crisp

Friday, June 30, 2017
Blueberry Crisp is an easy to make recipe. Perfect for dessert. Great with frozen or fresh blueberries making this a year around favorite from Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

I had a giant bag of frozen blueberries needing to be used so I decided to make a Blueberry Crisp, but fresh can always be used.

Frozen blueberries were a staple in my Granny's freezer growing up. I remember going to pick berries in the summer to stock the freezer.

She would make Blueberry Pies, Blueberry Syrup for Pancakes, Blueberry Muffins, and of course an occasional Blueberry Crisp throughout the year with her frozen stash.

The blueberries are so naturally sweet, and it's so simple to make. It has a generous amount of crunchy crisp topping to go perfectly with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

To me it just wouldn't be summer without Crisp and Cobblers.

Earl Grey Ginger Spritzer

Monday, July 20, 2015
I'm so excited to have Janette from Culinary Ginger guest hosting for me today sharing these gorgeous Earl Grey Ginger Spritzers. She has a gorgeous blog full of lots of delicious, healthy recipes!

I personally can't wait to try these Earl Grey Ginger Spritzers!

Earl Grey Ginger Spritzers are a refreshing easy to make drink perfect for spring and summer parties from Culinary Ginger for Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

Hello everyone, this is Janette from Culinary Ginger and I have for you a light, refreshing Summery drink. This Early Grey ginger spritzer is just Earl Grey tea and non alcoholic ginger beer.

A simple 2 ingredient drink perfect for sipping on those warmer days or evenings as the sun goes down.

Easy Earl Grey Ginger Spritzer are a fun easy cocktail or mocktail.

More than 60 billion (that's billion with a 'b') cups of tea are consumed in Britain every year, wow.

Earl Grey is one of the most popular teas to drink and is not just used to drink hot out of tea cups anymore.

I'm seeing tea being added more recently in alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, just like this Earl Grey ginger spritzer.

A shot of Vodka, Rum, Whisky, or your favorite Alcohol could be added each glass to make this a cocktail.

To achieve the 'layered' look of the drink, I first poured the more viscous (thicker) of the 2 liquids, the ginger beer, to half fill the glass.

I then poured the tea into a jug with a small spout because I want a slow pour. I tilted the glass and poured the tea as slowly as I could (and got some spillage) down the side of the glass and that's it.

A delicious drink that everyone will enjoy.

Delicious Earl Grey Ginger Spritzer can have a shot of vodka, rum, whisky or your favorite alcohol added to make it a cocktail or served without for a delicious refreshing drink. Recipe from Culinary Ginger for Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

I want to thank Serena for having me guest post today and I hope that you all get a chance to cool off this Summer and try my tasty Earl Grey Ginger Spritzer for a twist on iced tea.

Mediterranean Pasta Salad

Sunday, July 5, 2015
Mediterranean Pasta Salad recipe from Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

I love, love, love this Mediterranean Pasta Salad for our road trips, picnics and adventures since it's meatless yet chock-full of goodies like arugula, garbanzo beans, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, capers, sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese tossed with a fresh herb vinaigrette.

It's pure deliciousness in a bowl!

If garbanzo beans aren't your flavor try subbing with cannellini beans aka white kidney beans.

I usually make this when we go camping as our first lunch or dinner since there's so much work to do setting up camp and getting organized it takes the stress out of fixing a meal. It can be packed into Mason Jars for easy individualized servings on the go.

Mediterranean Pasta Salad is best made the day before to allow the flavors to meld and pasta to absorb the dressing making it easy to grab and go on your way out the door.

It's so, so, so good I know you'll love, love, love it too!

Patriotic Cocktail

With Memorial Day upon us our Sunday Supper crew has teamed up to bring you recipes filled with red white and blue foods to celebrate the long holiday weekend in remembrance of those that gave their lives while in service to our great country.
Colt and I spent 2 days trying to perfect a Patriotic Red White and Blue Cocktail recipe with the colors of the American Flag that not only looked pretty but was equally as delicious and easy to make.
After many attempts to achieve gorgeous layers of red, white and blue with different fruit purees and cream we finally decided on a simple Patriotic Cocktail with whole berries soaked in a mixture of lime for a murky white color, 7up and vodka.
A perfect cocktail to enjoy while celebrating an important day of reflection and patriotism.

Asian Shrimp Soba Noodles With Vegetables

Saturday, October 6, 2012
Asian-Shrimp-Soba-Noodles.jpg
I usually keep the fridge stocked with my favorite Asian flavors at any given time to make this Asian Shrimp Soba Noodles with Vegetables. Rice vinegar, sesame seed oil, gluten free soy sauce, sriracha sauce or chili paste, limes and ginger are staples for my cupboards. I am sure nothing I make is ever an authentic Asian dish but more of a fusion of flavors I .

If you are afraid of the heat or just don't like the spiciness feel free to omit the jalapenos and sriracha sauce. Asian Shrimp Soba Noodles with Vegetables isn't super spicy but the jalapenos and sriracha sauce add a nice subtle flavor with just a touch of heat. Also the veggies can easily be subbed out for what you have available in your fridge at home just try to keep in mind the flavors of the vegetables so they compliment an Asian dressing.

Key Lime Cheesecake Bars With Almond Cookie Crust

Wednesday, May 16, 2012
Key Lime Cheesecake Bars With Almond Cookie Crust is an easy dessert recipe from Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.

Key lime pie reminds me of my sweet Granny, it was always my favorite part of dinner over the holidays. A slice of her key lime pie! Her pie was always amazing, just like everything else she made.

So for Mother's day in her memory I had made Key Lime Cheesecake Bars.

There are so many times I wish she would have lived long enough to meet my sweet husband and the kids. Just so they could understand the love she had and her amazing skills in the kitchen!

I truly thank her every day for the inspiration she gave me growing up, to do better, the great amount of love she had and a wonderful love of home cooked food!

These key lime bars have a subtle lime flavor. My husband isn't a big lime or lemon dessert man, if we are going to be honest. But he loves limes, so I set out to create a recipe that he would enjoy.

Mainly so I don't eat the whole dessert by myself in 1 1/2 days

I knew this hit the spot when he was sneaking into the pan and being caught enjoying the bars alone.

Our conversation went something like this... Me, " I thought you didn't like key lime?" Colt," I don't but these are incredible."

I also went with a bar over a pie because I was a bit lazy not in the mood to make a pie crust and bars are a little bit easier for pot lucks and large gatherings to serve.
