Hot Dungeness Crab Dip

Saturday, October 31, 2015
A flavorful and easy to prepare Hot Crab Dip that is easy to prepare. It's a favorite at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, and Tailgating parties since it can be made head of time and baked later. It's made with cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, parmesan cheese, shallot, chives, fresh dill, lemon juice, hot sauce, and of coarse lots of delicious lump crab meat.

Hot Crab Dip is perfect appetizer for easy entertaining. With the first of November already upon us we are gathering recipes this week for Easy Holiday Entertaining with Sunday Supper!

I don't know about you but I am always looking for ways to make things a little bit easier during the holidays.

I usually add Hot Crab Dip to our hors-d'oeuvre list since it's not only easy to make but can be assembled the night before, refrigerated and then baked right before serving. The less things to worry about once company arrives the better in my book.

Plus Hot Dungness Crab Dip is one of those special things we consider a treat reserved for special occasions making it perfect for your holiday entertaining whether it's Thanksgiving, Christmas or even New Years, it's sure to impress your company.

I also may have a serious crab addiction so the more excuses to enjoy crab the better! I highly recommend Dungeness crab for it's delicious flavor for this recipe, King crab will do to but I would avoid canned crab since the flavor just isn't the same as fresh or frozen.

Shallot in a saucepan being sautéed for Hot Dungeness Crab Dip.
In a small sauté pan heat 2 teaspoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil and 2 tablespoons Minced Shallots over medium-high heat.

Cook until shallots are softened and lightly brown.

Remove from heat and allow to cool until room temperature.

A mixing bowl with sautéed shallots, cream cheese, sour cream, grated Parmesan Cheese, fresh chives, dill, lemon juice, hot sauce, and salt for Hot Dungeness Crab Dip.

A large pile of shelled Dungeness Crab Meat for Hot Crab Dip.

  14. Would blue crab work? I can't find Dungeness or king crab.

    1. Blue Crab will work. It will just have the flavor of the blue crab. It's been over 25 years since I've had blue crab so I can't quite remember the taste difference. I hope that helps, Serena

  15. Finding fresh crab in rural Maine is a challenge. I tried making this with canned crab and it was very fishy. Is there a way to make this using shrimp? Thanks!

    1. Shrimp should work. I've made it very similar using bay shrimp with artichoke hearts and it is another favorite.
